Algebra syllabus
Welcome to Math 1 ( previously known as Algebra1 )! Math 1 is an advanced math course taught as a high school honors course. Students who complete the course with a “C” or better and a level 3 or 4 on the EOC Test receive credit on their high school transcripts. Students need to realize that this course requires studying in a way that may be different from the past.
**Class notes are required and should be reviewed daily and homework diligently completed. Homework is assigned Monday through Friday and will be due the next school day. Quizzes/Tests will be given throughout the quarter. Students should review by looking over their notes, the sections/chapter from their book and by practicing some of the homework problems and class examples. Remember, practice makes perfect!
Students will need a graphing calculator this year. While Chicod will provide them with a TI-83 for classroom use, I feel it is essential for them to continue using a graphing calculator at home in order for them to become proficient with this type of calculator!( TI-83,TI- 83 plus, TI-84, or TI-84 plus are all acceptable). Their End-of-Course Test is graphing calculator active. I would rather have the students keep their personal calculator at home so we won’t have any lost or misplaced calculators.
Grading Scale: Class Grade Determination:
A 100-93 Homework: 15%
B 92-85 Quizzes: 35% (chapter quizzes, bellringer quizzes, etc.)
D 76-70
F 69 and below Tests: 50%
**The above percentages make up the overall class grade which counts for 75% of their total grade. 25% of their course grade is thie End of Course Exam grade.

Math 1 students will receive homework every night. It is important that they complete these assignments in order to prepare them for the next day’s lesson, the quizzes and chapter tests. All assignments will be reviewed. If a student has missed a graded assignment due to an absence, he/she should make it up following the guidelines in the student handbook.
Homework will be due at the beginning of class.

Students will have random notebook quizzes to ensure that students are maintaining their notes and assignments. Expectations for notebooks will be reviewed with each student.

If the assignment is turned in after 24 hours from the due date, the student will receive 50% of the points they have earned. All work must be turned in BEFORE the end of the unit in which it was assigned. Missing assignments will turn to zeros after the end of the unit.
